**Candlelit Chicago Micro Wedding at Osteria Via Stato pairs best with You and I by Ingrid Michaelson and a brandy Old Fashioned in hand**
Extra cherries in ours please 😉
We spent their micro wedding day catching Ubers, dodging cars at sunset, and laughing together in downtown Chicago. It was a whole vibe. One that we’d be happy to live in forever with Katie and Paul!!
Small Chicago Wedding Venues
Osteria Via Stato Wedding
Cars zipped by outside but inside the corner of State Street, a handful of Katie and Paul’s family gathered inside for a candlelit Chicago Micro Wedding at Osteria Via Stato. Candles waved cheerfully as Katie’s sister pronounced the couple as husband and wife. Osteria Via Stato is an authentic Italian restaurant in the River North neighborhood. Quite honestly it is the most perfectly romantic and moody small Chicago wedding venues that we’ve ever stepped foot in.
How to Plan a Chicago Micro Wedding
Bliss-filled, big city elegance, with a cozy but elevated family dinner was their wedding vision.
The vibes: crispy. Sleek. Clean. Minimal. Simply put, they wanted it to feel like them. Here’s how Katie and Paul did that:
- An unique, “tucked away”, intimate location where only their closest family and friends would gather (less than 20 people in total)
- A gathering with moody candlelight
- Making new adventures together in a city where Katie already had so many family memories with her sisters!
- Making it an authentic documentary experience, where Katie, Paul, their son, and O & B, Ubered around the city, simply adventuring.
- Including their son in all of their important moments as they formed a new, safe place for each other, as a family.

Hook Pier Chicago Micro Wedding
Chicago weather has a mind of its own, but even on a hot August day, Katie and Paul savored each moment as it happened. We prepared with extra water bottles and sunscreen before heading off to their first look at Hook Pier.
As Paul got into position, Katie secretly peered out at him from the crisp blue and white beach house. Her gown was minimal and effortless – a testament to how they describe themselves as a couple.
Light dining al fresco was the part of their day that they most looked forward to. So after their candlelit Chicago Micro Wedding at Osteria Via Stato, they ran outside to the patio and celebrated! Generous helpings of decadent hors d’oeuvreswere were passed as family squeezed the newlyweds tight.
Again, we hopped an Uber (one of our biggest city elopement tips and tricks- that way you don’t need to worry about wasting time in finding parking!) and headed to one of Chicago’s most notable places – The Lincoln Park Zoo People’s Gas Pavilion (The Honeycomb). It’s a lush, designated community area, surrounded by skyscrapers.

Then we headed to the absolute iconic Fourth Presbyterian Church. As the sun began to set, the new family of three snuck in a few more moments together before being ushered into their intimate, moody reception.
Kings Table Wedding Layout
Their King’s Table was laden with subtle but opulent touch of eucalyptus sprigs on each place setting and flickering taper candles.
A king’s table is a long, large rectangular table. The newly weds are seated in the middle on one edge of the table while guests, family members, or whoever of their choosing are seated all around them. It’s the best way to create an intimate, intentional setting. And you’re quite literally, surrounded by the people you love most.

“In my mind it was always you two!” – Katie when asked what was important to her in her photographers!
It was always you guys in our mind too, Katie and Paul 🥰
When your Chicago elopement photographers aren’t popping champagne with these newlyweds, we’re photographing in other iconic locations like this intimate Door County wedding in soft neutrals.
The night wound down with the clinking of glasses as Ingrid Michaelson’s “You and I” bounced off the stone walls. All twenty individuals got up to join in on Katie and Paul’s first dance together. It turned into the best first “family” dance there has ever been.
