A unique sailboat elopement on Lake Michigan

Groom kisses brides hand

Sister Bay Elopement

Sun drenched waves lapped against the side of the creaking wood while the deep maroon sails of the Edith M. Becker arched gracefully in the wind of the bay. While the lights back on the docks of Sister Bay began to pop on one by one, this Door County elopement had just begun.

Sprigs of fresh ivory and purple florals popped against the rich greens of the bride’s bouquet by Chris Company, a Wisconsin based intimate wedding planner with an amazing talent for flower arrangements. The bow of the sailboat was overflowing with lavish flower pieces. The pieces were a combination of intricate textures that flowed together as seamlessly as the gentle rolls of Lake Michigan’s waves. Outdoor wedding celebrations are something that Door County excels at (that and the fresh fudge;) )

Before they could set foot aboard the sailboat, Judy was busy buttoning the last silk button as Mateo straightened his pocket square. Their getting ready location, an orchard lined property, Swedish Orchard Farm, lay just a flew minutes outside of the bay. On the outside wall of the farm building that Judy was getting ready in stood a retro styled air stream. It was the perfect trendy pop for unique groom portraits and Mateo was full of dashing smiles as he sipped his wine against the bus. After a few portraits of the couple, it was time to head to the main event.

Door County Wedding Venue

Judy’s long sunshine hair, with a whisper of mermaid, blew in the wind as Mateo hugged her close and whispered sweet sailor nothings into her ear. The approach to this shoot was trendy yet relaxed. The combination of Mateo’s chic black suit with a loosely buttoned shirt and Judy’s beaded tulle jacket with elaborate necklace piece brought the worlds of elegance and bold together. As the boat’s boom swung, the captain and crew of Sail Door County called out directions. The Edith M. Becker sailing into the pristine pink sky could not have served as a more romantic venue. Judy and Mateo even were able to man the ship for a few minutes! How magical could this Door County wedding venue be?

As golden hour faded into blue hour, the boat turned back into the bay, but not before a wine popping kiss at the stern – the most magical end to a Door County Elopement.
